Hello everyone,

In this blog I will take the opportunity to tell you briefly how I developed my first collection of miniatures and how was my very first step into the professional world as a digital sculptor.

From the start I had this idea of trying to sculpt a miniature pack with a Lovecraft theme. There is lots of variety of creatures and gods, that’s why I decided to focus on specific books, on fragments of all their cosmology so my collection had coherence.

That’s the reason I started with Innsmouth town and its peculiar inhabitants. I though I would have enough for an entire collection just with the lore of that town.

About the designs, I wanted to start form a classic idea of the deep ones, not to reinvent it too much but look for a slightly more stylized version of what we already know. At the beginning I did thinner versions that didn’t quite work out, and after improving and adding muscle tone, shortening the legs a little and adding more belly, the design basis began to convince me, to get that feeling of heavy bodies without losing the initial aesthetics.

For the design of both Dagon and Hydra I wanted to keep the general aesthetics and I kept imagining them as centuries of centuries old deep ones, keeping a similar physiology to the rest of them, but with more developed fins and heads among other details, along with a larger size.

To design the investigators, I recalled those role-playing game sessions of "Call of Cthulhu", like board games based on this cosmology. It is a classic there to be able to put yourself in one of the investigator’s shoes, and discover with the fragility of humankind the horrors that every story has to offer. That’s why I chose among the most iconic professions and stayed in the 1920s.

This collection is special to me, as the beginning of a new path as a creator, as a digital sculptor of minis. I hope to bring more collections based on this cosmology between other themes, and to continue learning and improving along the way. Any feedback will be very well received and appreciated, to improve and achieve better and better creations.
