My submission to the McGill RepYourDept Design Challenge.
The UMD Dept. of Chemistry & Biochemistry spans many different research interests which are highlighted in this design. The major pieces are the inorganic complex (black), a protein structure (red), and our University's mascot, the Terrapin Testudo (gold). The front panel has been designed as a lithophane that can be back lit using an LED strip to show off the lettering and reveal several nanostructures and a DNA double helix.
The object CAN be printed as a single piece, but it has been designed to be printed in multiple parts to minimize the use of supports and to allow a multi-color print (in this case, the University colors: white, red, gold, and black). The back panel contains the script "Terps", a commonly used abbreviation for Terrapins.
