This statue was commissioned by local businesses to offer some artistic merit to what would otherwise be a relatively bland financial district. The piece represents the difference between the north and south banks of the Thames which have for generations divided the capital both financially and socially. The piece is designed and made by well known sculptor and artist Bernard Schottlander and has stood on this spot since 1976.
