Created for the Electromaker design competition. For assembly instructions and rest of the parts visit their Mood Lamp page.
This Mood Lamp was inspired by the famous Gyroid infill type you can see in many timelapse videos of 3D prints.
With a bit of bending and twisting around, the cylindrical futuristic-looking lampshade is actually a slightly modified Gyroid infill.
The unique structure of this shape allows the light to bounce inside it freely around.
There are two versions of the shade you can choose from:
- 1.0mm wall thickness: Easier to print, more recommended for first trials.
- 0.5mm wall thickness: A bit harder to print out, but by having thin walls the lampshade will let out more light.
There are also two versions for the lamp stem. It's up to your tase if you'd like the straight or the curved version of it.
Remember to print the stem in vase mode!
Stem must be printed in vase mode.
Brim can be used for the shade for ensuring a stable print.
The shade with thicker walls can be printed with lower resolution (0.2-0.3mm layer thickness). For the thin version I recommend up to 0.2mm layer thickness.
Small tip: You can use underextrusion for the shade so the light can escape even more, a bit randomly. Note that it will give the print a rough look.
