Once a powerful wrestler, heralded as the strongest in the world, recognized for his steel-like will and superhuman power, defeating a lion and bear in combat, Gavel became known as the Ironfist of Pitchborough. His fame made him a general of the Blitzcorp Elite division in the years to come, for Gavel Ironfist had it all. For many years, his peers looked up to him for his bravery and sheer strength. However, Gavel almost succumbed to a deadly wound that disfigured his body, suffered during an ambush attack by an insurgent group during one of his patrols.
As a resilient and tough-as-iron man, Gavel was saved from the brink by Balthazar Morris' new advancement in the Leechpox Treatment program, becoming stronger than he ever was, even at his previous prime. Thus, he was named Chief Enforcer, Gavel, of the Pitchborough Blitzcorp Department. With his new status and command over the whole department, he led numerous raids on insurgent hideouts, dismantling gang and militia operations, and even putting an end to the schemes of the traitorous detective, Cymon Lemmen.
In his new form, Gavel fully embraced the philosophy of his savior and the desire to evolve humanity. But while he believed himself to be one of Balthazar's greatest projects, the head of the Morris Inc. family was ultimately disappointed in him. Recognizing Gavel's strength but still desiring to create a true immortal life in the form of Experiment G, Balthazar's disappointment was a blow to Gavel's pride. Unable to accept his savior's disapproval, Gavel became addicted to the Leechpox slithering substance that made him who— or what—he is now, indulging in abusive doses. This addiction made him much stronger and fiercer, but also uncontrollable, a ticking time bomb within the Blitzcorp ranks.
