This bust is virtually identical to that on Giugni's tomb in the Badia, Florence, by it is not clear why it was made. The format, showing Bernardo's strong profile, evoked Roman rulers and complemented the classical nature of the tomb. Giugni was a diplomat, a knight and an important figure in Florence.
